This chapter tells us something happened on the pirate ship. The ship was dirty and messy everywhere, which also create a gloomy atmosphere according to Hook’s depression and loneliness. Hook hoisted the boys up first. He wanted to let six of them wall the plank, and leave two cabin boys. As was told by Wendy not to irritate him, Tootles stepped out to negotiate with Hook. When the boys agreed on “my mother would not like me to be a pirate” and refused to be a pirate, Hook took Wendy up onto the deck. Wendy looked at Hook with frightful contempt and told the boys to die like English gentlemen. Even the pirates were awed. Smee tied Wendy to the mast and whispered to Wendy, “I’ll save you if you promise to be my mother.” However, Wendy answered scornfully, “I would almost rather have no children at all.” In the end of this chapter, the crocodile, which is the only thing Hook afraid of, appeared just in time.
The book was really well written. I felt again it is a literary rather than simply a fairy story. I found it more and more wonderful and cannot wait to see how Peter save Wendy and the boys.

Following the last chapter, all the boys were cheat by the pirates beating tom-tom. They were caught by the pirates as soon as they came out of the tree, and so wasWendy. Then they were tied to prevent their flying away. However, the pirates were not able to tied Slightly, because he was blown out. Just because of this, Hook found the way to the underground home to catch Peter (no boy so blown out could use a tree wherein an average man need stick).
Hook went down to the ground and found peter sleeping in the bed. Peter’s impertinent appearance as he slept angered Hook. He put five drops of the virulent poison into Peter’s medicine by the bed.
Peter slept on till Tinker Bell came. Tinker Bell told Peter that Wendy was caught by Hook. Peter, of course, could not wait to rescue her. And to please her, he decided to take his medicine first. Fortunately, Tink stopped him by having the poisoned medicine herself. While Tink was about to die, she told Peter if the children believed in fairies, she could get well. Finally, Peter and children on Neverland saved Tink’s life as they said to believe in fairies.
I like this chapter, which reminded me of the moving scene in the movie—everybody’s saying “ I believe in fairies”. I was moved by Tinker Bell’s brave way to show her love and try to save her lover’s life regardless of her own. Though Tinker Bell has too strong a sense of jealous, which made her seem to be a horrible creature, I still think she has some adorable feature.

“If you shut your eyes and are a lucky one, you may see at times a shapeless pool of lovely pale colours suspended in the darkness; then if you squeeze your eyes tighter, the pool begins to take shape, and the colours become so vivid that with another squeeze they must go on fire. But just before they go on fire you see the lagoon. This is the nearest you ever get to it on the mainland, just one heavenly moment; if there could be two moments you might see the surf and hear the mermaids singing. “
“One green light squinting over Kidd’s Creek, which is near the mouth of the pirate river, marked where the brig, the JOLLY ROGER, lay, low in the water; a rakish-looking [speedy-looking] craft foul to the hull, every beam in her detestable, like ground strewn with mangled feathers. She was the cannibal of the seas, and scarce needed that watchful eye, for she floated immune in the horror of her name. “
As well, you can see if you read a few chapters. Here’s the link: chapter8 chapter12 chapter15

This chapter showed Barrie’s style of writing– splendid and brilliant. The description is vivid, exact and prudence. The book is literally worth reading besides the scenario of the interesting story.
The pirate attacked the redskins, though it is usually the redskin who has the wit beyond the white man attacks. The redskins know before the dawn is the best time to attack, because the courage of the white might be at its lowest ebb. They are famous for better alertness of the senses than the civilized peoples. However, Hook did not wait till the night was nearly spent, and this sudden attack surprised the redskins. It was a massacre rather than a fight. Many brave redskins were killed.
Nevertheless, the night’s work was not yet over, what Hook wanted was Peter Pan rather than to beat the redskins. Hook hated Peter that much not only because he had flung his arm to the crocodile, but also because of Peter’s cockiness. The question now for the pirates was how to get down the trees. As I mentioned in Chapter 7, each tree fitted each one. Hook eavesdropped the conversation between boys, and knew if the redskin won the fight, they would beat the tom-tom. Thus, the pirate beat the tom-tom, in order to induce the boys out.

Wendy told the story of her own: Mr and Mrs Darling, Nana and the children flying away from home, with the boys ceaseless interrupting. The boys were glad that they too had appeared in Wendy’s story. When Wendy talked about mother’s love, she said mother would always leave the window open for her children to fly back. She imagined that they go back home years latter, seeing the open window waiting for them. This was the end of Wendy’s story, and where the boys felt great mother’s love. However, Peter had different opinion, as when he went back home, his mother had a new child and seemed to have forgotten him.
John, Michael and Wendy decided to go back home. Peter pretended to care nothing about her leaving, but actually, he cared about indeed. In contrast, the boys were afraid of loosing Wendy, and they thought about chaining her up. Peter planed to have redskins guide them through the wood, and asked Tink to take them across the sea. The boys thought Wendy was going of to something nice to which they had not been invited. In that case, Wendy invited them to her home (the invitation was meant specially to Peter). Actually, Wendy and Peter were reluctant to leave each other.
On the other hand, Pirates made their dreadful attack upon the redskins……
Barrie talked about “great mother’s love” in this chapter, which is absolutely true, but rarely be understood by people other than real mothers. I know it in theory, but as I haven no practical experience, I am wandering why the mother’s love can be so great?

As Peter had saved Tiger Lily from a dreadful fate, the redskins became their friends. They called Peter the Great White Father. However, the redskins were not as respectful to the other boys as to Peter.
While the children were having their evening meal, Peter went out to get the time (the way to get the time on island was to find the crocodile and listen to the clock in its stomach). During the make-believe tea, the boys started to complain each other to Wendy. When Peter came back home, they danced. Peter was really the best dancer among them, but he pretended to be scandalized. Peter invited Wendy to dance, but Wendy thought a mother of an armful of children should not dance. They both pretended to be old parents, even though they were still little boy and girl.
Wendy asked Peter’s feeling of her other than a mother. I guess she wanted Peter to say “love” to her, but the never-grown-up Peter does not even know what the “Love” is. The same as Wendy, Tiger Lily wanted to be something to Peter other than mother. Peter asked Wendy what was that. Wendy was too shy to tell him as a girl and she thought Tinker Bell could tell him as an abandoned creature. Peter again thought Tink wanted to be his mother. Tink repeated her tag “ You silly ass!” to Peter. I think it was because Peter never understood her affection to him.
I feel this chapter a little bit boring. Though it tells about the “happy home”, but every thing is fake. I like the adventures, which is more exciting.

This is a very short chapter. Peter was saved by the Never bird.
The Never bird learnt to swim since the nest fell into the water. She made desperate efforts to reach Peter on the nest with eggs in it and meant to save Peter even though she had to sacrifice the eggs. Fortunately, Peter didn’t desert the eggs. Instead, he put them into Starkey’s hat (a deep tarpaulin, watertight, with a broad brim). This kind of nest becomes popular later on. Finally, Peter reached the home under the ground as soon as Wendy, who had been carried back by the kite.
The same to Barrie, I wandered why Peter was so popular with everyone on the Neverland: the fairies, the mermaids, the lost boys, and the Never birds. Though Peter had been nice to Never bird, he had also sometimes tormented her. And the mermaids treated all the boys and Wendy unfriendly but they were kind to Peter. At the end of Chapter 6 it says, “Any of the other boys obstructing the fairy path at night they would have mischiefed, but they just tweaked Peter’s nose and passed on.” Why everyone is so kind to Peter, and treated him differently?

This week I read chapter 8, it tells us about the mermaids living in the lagoon and how Peter rescued Tiger Lily and an adventurous fight between the boys and pirates was brought about.
When you shut and squeeze your eyes, a pool will appear, take shape and change color. This is the lagoon full of mermaids and where the children often spent long summer days, swimming, floating, playing mermaid games. The mermaids were not friendly to the boys and Wendy, but they are so kind to Peter. On sunny days after rain, the mermaids comb up in extraordinary numbers to play with the balls (bubbles maid in rainbow water). But they disappeared at the time the boys tried to join in. John introduced a new way of hitting bubbles (using head instead of hand), which is the one mark that he has left on the Neverland.
Wendy insisted on having the boys rest after mid-day meal, though the meal was make-believe. While they lay on the Marooners’ Rock, the pirates came closer to them. Wendy felt something wrong, but she was too young a mother to code with danger. Fortunately, some boys could sniff danger even in his sleep and roused the others. They found Tiger Lily (the captive and a chief’s daughter) on the boat, when it drew nearer. Hook ordered Smee and Starkey to land her on the rock and let her die. Peter decided to save her life in a more brave way. He didn’t wait till the pirates had gone, but imitated the voice of Hook ordering them to set Tiger Lily free. He succeeded but at the same time the real Hook came about. Peter was too pride that Hook uncovered his identity. Thus, a fight was unavoidable. Finally, Hook was scared away by the crocodile, and the other two pirates were defeated by the boys. However, Peter and Wendy were beating against the rock. Peter pull fainted Wendy up the rock and lay down beside her. They were in danger of being drowned, as the water was rising. Wounded by Hook, Peter can not fly or swim. Michael’s kite saved Wendy (it can only lift one). Peter showed his braveness and dignity as a man. What will happen to him?
This chapter is so brilliant and adventurous. Peter is a hero who will always save the beauty. Though it is an old way of figuring the main character in the movie of the novel, it will never be old-fashioned. Though he is still a boy and never want to grow up, he exhibited the intrinsic aspect of being a man, which is proud of himself and never will step back in front of danger.

Every lost boy has their own hollow tree, which is fitted by each of them. Once fitted, the boys should keep fit to maintain the shape that will enable them to get through the hollow. Peter measured Wendy, John and Michael for hollow trees and found the fitted tree for them. And they loved their home underground, which has stools (colorful mushrooms), fishing pools (if you dig the floor), and a Never tree, which keeps on growing. The bed was tilt against the wall by day, and let down at 6:30pm. Michael was put into the basket as a baby, because Wendy, as a mother needs one. Tinker Bell has a bird-cage large apartment, which looks beautiful but rather conceited, just like Tinker Bell.
Wendy was busy being a mother: cooking, sewing, and making new things, even though we don’t know if there was an exactly really meal or just a make-believe.The favorite time for Wendy to sew and darn was after bedtime and she enjoyed being a mother. Wendy seems not worried about her mother and father, because she know that they will always wait for her with the window open. However, she was afraid that John and Michael would forget their parents and take Wendy as their real mother. So she made examinations to remind their life at home.
At last, Barrie talks about the adventures, which were daily occurrence. Peter went our alone almost everyday, but no one can tell if he had adventure or not. Because he never tell the truth or because he could never remember what he had done. There were so many adventures Barrie mentioned, such as the Never Bird’s nest falling into the water, Tink’s attempt to send Wendy back to mainland by a floating leaf, the poisonous cake made by the pirates, and Peter’s defiance of the lions. Finally he decided to tell us the story about the lagoon in the next chapter.
This chapter brought us so many fascinating stuffs. Such as the hollow tree, which keeps the family in a good condition. This theory is so original and also can be practically used nowadays. Keeping fit is quite a fad that women try all kinds of methods to loose weight and have a good shape. Maybe we can try this method of having the clothes to help shape our body.
I am quite interested in reading this book. All the adventures show the originality of the author and I am ready to have an adventure with him.
